Sea fishing

The Adriatic Sea is a paradise for both diving lovers and those who love fishing. If you want to engage in sport fishing during your holiday in Istria, you will need a license. Licenses are issued for sport angling, hand angling, line-fishery with up to 150 hooks, tuna hunting (and similar large fish) and speargun fishing.

The recreational fishermen can purchase all types of licenses for recreational fishing at sea at the regional offices of the Ministry and at authorized dealers for recreational fishing licenses at sea (such as travel agencies) as well as electronically via the website of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fishing and Rural Development.

It is important to keep in mind that the electronic licenses do not have a paper form – the license is confirmed with the serial number assigned by the system upon purchase. When the purchase is completed, a PDF document shall be delivered to the e-mail of the buyer which confirms that the license has been bought and contains the license serial number.

Daily and several day permits for fishing on the sea are only valid with a membership card or HSŠRM (Croatian federation of Sport fishing on sea) or fishing federation of other country.
Annual permits for fishing at sea are only valid with a membership card of HSŠRM (Croatian federation of Sport fishing on sea).
The purchased license is valid for the entire fishing territory of the Republic of Croatia.
Price of each license depends on how long it is valid, while for the fishing of the tuna, swordfish and Mediterranean spearfish, special permission is required.

The fish caught in sport fishing cannot be used for commercial purposes.
License is not valid for fishing economically important fish species and other marine organisms smaller than those prescribed by Law order on the protection of fish and other marine organisms.

For diving with equipment you will need a permission you can obtain with the registered clubs with the prior presentation of the certificate on passed examination. Mask diving does not require a special permission.
